Ghent triumphs at the Henley Royal Regatta
22 février 2024

Rowing is not exactly a sport one would associate with Belgium today. Yet in a different era, in the Belle Epoque, the rowing crews from Ghent were a force to reckon with.

The reason was the triple victory of Ghent (1906, 1907 and 1909) in the most prestigious of all international rowing competitions, the Henley Royal Regatta in England. The Flemish city won three times the much coveted Grand Challenge Cup in the eights. It was the first time since its foundation in 1839 that the Cup went to a foreign team.
