Eind 2018 lanceerde Liberas een nieuwe internationale Engelstalige boekenreeks: New Perspectives on the History of Liberalism and Freethought. De uitgave van deze reeks is in handen van de Berlijnse academische uitgeverij De Gruyter Oldenbourg. Najaar 2022 verscheen het tweede volume in de reeks: Demystifying the Sacred: Blasphemy and Violence from the French Revolution to Today onder redactie van Eveline G. Bouwers (Leibniz Institute of European History) en David Nash (Oxford Brookes University).

Het boek brengt een analyse van een onderwerp dat historici grotendeels hebben genegeerd, maar dat toch van groot belang is voor de wereld van vandaag: het krachtige verband dat bestaat tussen overtredingen van het heilige en verschillende vormen van geweld. Aan de hand van voorbeelden uit het revolutionaire Frankrijk tot het Rusland van Vladimir Poetin, onderzoeken de internationale auteurs de aard en de kracht van lokale beschuldigingen van godslastering, het historische en juridische kader waarin ze werden geuit en het geweld (fysiek maar ook symbolisch) dat ermee gepaard gaat.

Het boek verduidelijkt hoe culturen van godslastering, en aanverwante daden van ketterij, afvalligheid en heiligschennis, een partner waren van of fungeerden als een trigger voor fysieke actie, maar ook een vorm van hoe geweld werd ervaren. In het algemeen tonen deze bijdragen het belang aan van religieuze gevoeligheden in de moderne samenleving en het gewelddadige potentieel dat vervat zit in kritiek of spot met zowel het heilige als het seculiere.
